  1. Understanding working with people with mental health issues

    Do you currently work in the mental health field, or are you interested in getting into this area? This course will increase your understanding of mental wellbeing and mental ill health. You will investigate the common signs and symptoms of mental health issues as well as exploring the range of agencies involved in the sector. You will identify best practice in planning care that supports people holistically. The course is particularly useful if you are studying or hoping to work in support work, care work or mental health. Applications are encouraged from learners who have used support services or have experienced homelessness. On successful completion you will achieve the level 2 understanding working with people with mental health needs certificate.

    This course is FREE if one of the following applies:

    a) You are employed and earn less than £20,962. You need to have lived in the UK or EU for the last 3 years and be a citizen of the UK or a country within the EU. You may also be eligible for this funding in other circumstances. When you come for assessment or enrolment, bring a pay slip dated within 3 months of the course start date, or a current employment contract that shows your gross salary. OR

    b) You are either on Jobseekers' Allowance or Employment & Support Allowance (WRAG). Please bring proof of income to your assessment or enrolment. OR

    c) You receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit), earn less than £338 a month (individual claims) or £541 a month (household claims) and are doing the course to become employed or move into more sustainable employment.

    Are you interested in developing your knowledge and understanding in the key principles of information, advice and guidance? This course is suitable for those working in and those looking to work in a range of roles or careers such as housing support, employment advice, counselling and peer mentoring. The course is for those who want to support others to make informed choices and enables the sharing of good practice. You will be required to find and carry out a work placement or voluntary role where you are providing clients with information, advice or guidance.
