  1. Level 3 certificate in BSL

    Course Date: Fri 10 Jan 2020 (and 2 other dates)
    Location on this date: KS - Keeley Street
    Ideal if you have passed level 2 in BSL and are ready to develop the knowledge and skills you need to achieve the level 3 qualification, accredited by Signature.

    The course fee is £1211, plus an upfront fee of £188 payable at the time of your enrolment.

    If you’re unable to pay the course fee upfront, you can choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to help cover the cost, repayable after the course ends.   2. Level 1 ECDL award in IT user skills for Deaf people

    Are you new to word processing, spreadsheets and presentations? Join this course and learn how to use the most important basic features of Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2016. This course will give you the confidence to use the programs independently as well as follow your studies to a higher level. By the end of the course you will have improved your skills and gained a qualification, Level 1 ECDL award in IT user skills.

    This course is FREE if one of the following applies:

    a) You are employed and earn less than £20,962. You need to have lived in the UK or EU for the last 3 years and be a citizen of the UK or a country within the EU. You may also be eligible for this funding in other circumstances. When you come for assessment or enrolment, bring a pay slip dated within 3 months of the course start date, or a current employment contract that shows your gross salary. OR

    b) You are either on Jobseekers' Allowance or Employment & Support Allowance (WRAG). Please bring proof of income to your assessment or enrolment. OR

    c) You receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit), earn less than £338 a month (individual claims) or £541 a month (household claims) and are doing the course to become employed or move into more sustainable employment.

  7. Reading for Pleasure for Deaf people (intermediate)

    The aim of this course is to develop deaf people’s reading skills in a friendly and supportive environment. During this course you will read various articles (newspapers/magazines) and stories / novels. You will also be discussing your reading materials in BSL, learning new vocabulary and exploring the structure of English. Translating from English to BSL and summarising texts will be a large part of the sessions. This course is suitable if you have achieved and/or have been assessed at English Entry 2 and/or English Entry 3 level. This course has no exams.

  9. Youth work: level 2 certificate

    THERE ARE LIMITED SPACES ON THIS COURSE, STUDENTS MUST HAVE A VOLUNTARY ROLE/PLACEMENT IN YOUTH WORK BEFORE THEY CAN ENROL.

    Are you interested in working with young people in a youth work setting or becoming a youth and community worker? This course will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence in working holistically with young people to facilitate their personal and social development. As a youth support worker, you can earn up to £180 per day, depending on the organisation. You could be involved in one to one support, mentoring, sports or group and project work. Learners must already be working or volunteering in a youth work environment to be considered for this course. You must complete at least 100 hours of voluntary work experience. You will be assessed in your work place setting to ensure you meet the standards required.
