  3. Sign Language Teacher Training Course

    Are you deaf and fluent in BSL? Interested to teaching BSL? This specialist BSL teacher training course leads to a national teaching qualification and includes knowledge of BSL and the Deaf Community.







    The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to teach in the post-16 education sector. This could be as a trainer in the private training industry or as a teacher/lecturer in further education.







    You will attend City Lit for lecture blocks over 8 sessions from 6th October 2023 to 8th June 2024.



    The hours are 10.00-17.00 Fridays and Saturdays.

  4. Lipreading teacher training course
    Course start date:  Fri 18 Oct 2024

    Location on this date:  Blended (learn both online and in-person)

    Part-time 19 days spread over 10 lecture blocks







    This course will be a mixed delivery mode. Students will attend City Lit, Covent Garden, London for some of the teaching blocks and access some of the blocks online.







    You will attend lecture and teaching practice blocks on the following dates.



    2024: October 18th/19th November 15th/16th December 13th/14th



    2025: January 10th/11th February 7th/8th March 7th/8th



    April 4th/5th May 9th May 16th/17th June 13th/14th







    If combined with a teaching qualification such as our GT105 Award in Education and Training, this will qualify you to teach Lipreading in the Further Education sector.

    This course will help you get become confident in your everyday communication including reading and writing. We will focus on topics that interest you and use these to help you improve the key elements of reading and writing as well as communication skills to enable you to express your thoughts and feelings including in difficult situations. You will learn to how write whole sentences and paragraphs, use adjectives effectively, organise your writing, make notes and complete drafts, spell important common words, use punctuation correctly and develop reading and writing strategies most suited to you. And you will learn some digital skills including reading and finding information from websites.

    The City & Guilds (6502) Award in Education and Training is an initial teacher training course ideal for anyone who teaches adults - or has experience of teaching adults - in Further Education or Adult and Community Learning. We may also consider you if you do not have teaching experience, but are qualified in your subject and have worked in a related field. This course will me mainly online with two sessions at City Lit towards the end of the course. Please note this course will be mainly online, except for sessions 8 and 10, and possibly 11.

  15. Digital skills and English for deaf people: Communication in a digital world (entry 2- entry 3)

    Communication is one of the most important skills you need to get a job. Workplaces need you to express your ideas clearly, ask the right questions, listen carefully and use the right body language. Wearing appropriate clothing and having a suitable background when you are online is important, you must also learn how to check that everything is working properly. All these skills are needed when you are online/remote.







    It is important to continue to improve your online communications skills as more jobs are available remotely. Many employers use apps e.g. Slack, Skype, Zoom, and Gmail to communicate so these skills will always be needed in the workplace.
