Have you always wanted to learn British Sign Language and communicate with Deaf people? Develop the skills you need to gain the level 1 BSL qualification, accredited by Signature. The fees for BSL level 1 courses include a year's subscription to Signworld.







You may wish to study BSL without the pressure of an exam, or just for fun. We can arrange for you to be taught without a formal final assessment and you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Have you passed your BSL level 1 and are you ready for a level 2 course? Build your skills and knowledge and achieve a level 2 qualification, accredited by Signature.

Ideal if you have achieved your level 3 or level 4 in BSL, depending on your BSL skills, and are ready to progress to Level 6. This course is suitable for you if you want to continue to develop your skills up to the appropriate standard at level 6 in BSL. This course will enable you to understand and use complex BSL in a range of work and social situations. By the end of the course you will need to achieve all 6 assessments to gain a qualification at level 6.

The City & Guilds (6502) Award in Education and Training is an initial teacher training course ideal for anyone who teaches adults - or has experience of teaching adults - in Further Education or Adult and Community Learning. We may also consider you if you do not have teaching experience, but are qualified in your subject and have worked in a related field. This course will me mainly online with two sessions at City Lit towards the end of the course. Please note this course will be mainly online, except for sessions 8 and 10, and possibly 11.

Develop your lipreading and fingerspelling skills and build your confidence in understanding conversations. Suitable if you have already completed the 6 or 8 week Introduction to Lipreading course at City Lit. This course will be delivered online using Zoom.

Learn strategies to help you speak more easily. You'll also work on becoming less sensitive about stammering, reducing avoidance strategies and developing self confidence. Designed specifically for people who stammer /stutter.

If you often manage to conceal your stammering (also known as stuttering), this course will help you to understand your particular type of stammering, reduce negative feelings, learn strategies to speak more easily and develop self confidence.

Learn strategies to help you speak more easily, work on becoming less sensitive and worried about stammering (also known as stuttering), reduce avoidance strategies and work towards saying what you want to say when you want to say it. This intensive course will enable you to make maximum progress in minimum time and will give you a solid foundation to continue to make positive changes following the course. It runs for five days Monday to Friday 11-15 March, then two follow-up days on April 15-16. We will also provide videoconferencing (Zoom) group support sessions on 25/3/24 6-8pm and 13/5//24 6-8pm.

Designed for speech and language therapists, this four-day interactive workshop will cover assessment and selection, stammering modification, interiorised stammering, cluttering, acquired stammering and an introduction to mindfulness. Opportunity to practise teaching techniques to clients included.







Note: this course runs on these days: March 20-22; and a final follow-up day on October 7.

Have you have passed your level 2 in BSL but need more confidence and advice before moving on to a level 3 course? You will improve the standard of your productive and receptive BSL skills to enable you to converse comfortably with a BSL user.

Designed for SLTs working with any client group, this interactive workshop will help you develop practical counselling skills. Topics include developing the therapeutic relationship, boundaries, ways of responding, paraphrasing, reflecting, questioning, immediacy, self disclosure and loss.
