A well-executed fight scene can make stage combat look easy but, much like dancing, it must be intricately choreographed and extensively rehearsed, to provide that authentic feel while remaining safe. Suitable for everyone.

What is the course about?

Our workshop will introduce you to the fundamental techniques used to create an engaging fight for performance. This is a perfect opportunity for you to discover how we create and make fights for the Film, TV and Theatre world safely and effectively.
This course will be very active in it’s teaching. Please make sure to wear the appropriate clothing and footwear for this, mentioned below.

What will we cover?

We will explore unarmed combat and develop a selection of moves and combine these moves in to a choreographed sequence which we’ll then look into how we perform this effectively and safely. All participants will explore the themes of the course through a playful and creative approach.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Learn a selection of Stage Combat moves
• Combine these moves into a choreographed fight sequence
• Look at how we make a fight Safe in a performance setting
• Recognise the aspects of staging, angle and focus within Stage Combat for theatre and for film
• Develop ways of carrying the character throughout the fight
• Explore the various ways we can perform this fight and how we make it engaging for an audience.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching will include practical class work, discussion, observation and supportive feedback for individual and group awareness.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear comfortable appropriate clothing that allows for ease of movement, as if you were going to the gym.
Absolutely no jeans and no boots.

Sean Croft Tutor Website

Sean trained at École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, a world renowned school for physical theatre. Over the two years he trained in devised theatre, ensemble building, character development, mask work, mime, object manipulation / puppetry and clowning, among a vast array of other training. Sean also trained at East 15 Acting School on the BA Hons / Acting & Stage Combat degree graduating in 2011, gaining specialist skills in nine different weapon sets alongside an extensive acting program, in contemporary and classical work and practitioners. Sean works as a performer, director and choreographer, and regularly leads workshops and courses for theatre companies across the UK, Europe and Asia. His approach to theatre follows predominantly from his training at Lecoq, with the body and with a playful curiosity, exploring the space and how the body moves within it. In his courses he hopes to open up a deeper understanding of performance technique, emotional engagement, physicality and the exploration of all aspects of life through theatre and to share his deep profound love of what he does with others.
