Stagecraft for singers

If you are performing as a singer, in recitals, gigs, opera or music theatre, come and develop your presentation and movement skills to help you create an enagaging performance. Suitable for all levels, and all genres of solo vocal music.


What is the course about?

A workshop for singers wanting to develop their stage technique and performance skills in order to become more proficient on any stage whether it be operatic, musical theatre, recital/concert or a rock/pop gig.

What will we cover?

Getting familiar with stage terminology
Exploring your physical and emotional connection to the music and story
Facial expresison, gesture and movement.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Feel more confident in your ability to function as a dramatic singer or singing actor
Have a range of ideas of how to present your songs.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for all levels and genres, but you need to be confident singing solo
You need to have a good level of mobility as you may be required to take part in moderately challenging physical exercises. If in doubt, please contact the Music department to discuss.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor demonstration and explanation
practical work in groups, pairs and solo
Ideally, have a song prepared that you can perform confidently from memory.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Note book and pencil. You need to wear loose clothing for movement work and flat, comfortable shoes.
