What is the course about?
Stories of the City of London: the major events and its people.
What will we cover?
The Roman city, a medieval suburb, Tudor London, the Great Fire of 1666, the Blitz, the Riverside.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Explain how and why the City of London has changed over the last 2000 years.
Identify the major buildings and sites visited in each walk.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No specific skills needed – just an interest in the history of London, plus the ability to do a weekly two hour walk at a moderate pace.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Each week you will have a guided walk, handouts, questions answered and discussion. Relevant books will be suggested. There will be no work outside the class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There are no other costs. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring waterproofs or an umbrella.
