This is a fun dance class that is guaranteed to get your energy pumping. We will work on your dance technique alongside your performance level, swagger and attitude!


What is the course about?

Street dance is a fusion of many styles, from hip hop, Old Skool, Commercial, and Jazz using a wide range of music from pop to r&b and hip-hop as well as other styles of music. This is a practical course where we will work on improving your dance technique and vocabulary, working on your style and approach, learning isolated movements, body rolls, popping, tutting and the many forms of footwork and current dance crazes.
There will be floor work and tricks but this is optional. The main aim is to provide a fun practical environment where you can learn essential technique, improve dance and performance skills as well as your own confidence and having fun whilst you do it.

What will we cover?

Each lesson will start with a full body group warm-up, isolations, arm and footwork combinations, followed by corner to corner / co-ordination / technical / turn exercises. There is a chance at the end of the lesson to dance your routine whilst the tutor watches, coaches and provides feedback. Some floor work may be used in class, alongside core and body strengthening.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Demonstrate warm up moves and Street dance techniques and tricks.
Identify strong co-ordination, flexibility, strength and stamina, better memory pattern.
Perform a routine with great confidence, style and attitude.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for beginners, those who are new to Street dance as well as those who have taken Street classes before or have taken completed a beginners dance class in a different style. A good level of fitness is required. Some floor work may be used in the class, and jumps too.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms and syncopations within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught together in a group, with individual pieces being worked on in front of the group so that you learn from each other’s performances as well as your own. This is a fun dance class that is guaranteed to get your energy pumping. There is no homework however we will encourage self practice.

You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. The exercises are best undertaken in jazz shoes or trainers. Jock straps should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort and remove any jewellery.
