What is the course about?

Caravaggio, master of chiaroscuro and the baroque, made his name in Rome and some of his works remain in situ in the places for which they were designed. With its world-class museums like Galleria Borghese and the Musei Capitolini, Rome is the ideal place to trace this key period in Caravaggio's life and art through comparisons to peers and rivals like Orazio Gentileschi and the Carracci; visits to the sites where he lived and worked including the church holding his legendary 'Calling of St Matthew'; and discussions around his legacy.

N.B. due to the long queues we won’t be visiting the Vatican museums but do by all means set aside time to do this independently and prebook online asap.

You will be sent the itinerary within a week of the course start date. Please be aware that museums and historic sites have different booking procedures and availability, so we cannot provide the specific itinerary sooner than this.

Please note: The course fee covers three full days of guided visits and all entrances to museums, churches, and historic sites. It does not include flights, accommodation, meals etc. which you will be required to book independently.

City Lit is not responsible for flight/travel cancellations or delays. Please ensure you have travel insurance. We recommend that you wait until the course is confirmed* before booking flight/travel accommodation.

This course is NOW CONFIRMED* – please feel free to book your hotels and accommodation now. Please ensure you have travel insurance, as this course is exempt from our normal refunds and transfer policy.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
