This course is a continuation our Swedish 2 lower, module 2 course and builds upon and expands your basic Swedish conversational skills. We'll also take a look at various aspects of contemporary Swedish culture.
What will we cover?
Topics: Things you like doing, talking about going out and buying tickets for an event, talking about what you've done in the past, Swedish outdoor culture, talking about your family and talking about shopping.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Topics: - talk about your current or last job - understand when others describe their work tasks - write a short letter using a dictionary - write a personal invitation for an event - read and discuss the information in diagrams - read a basic factual text
Grammar: - when to use preterite and when to use present perfect - adverbs for now and then - indirect speech (subordinate clauses) - exclamations - subjunctions - adverbs for position, destination and from position - reflexive possessive pronouns.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have completed Swedish 2 lower, module 1 or have equivalent experience.
Students should be able to make basic conversation about everyday situations, read short instructions and understand news reports in simple Swedish. They should also have a good knowledge of simple past and future tenses, be familiar with difference forms of the past tense and feel confident with present tense.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
