What is the course about?

As you approach the end of your second year of study, this Swedish course is designed to help you consolidate your skills, deepen your understanding, and prepare for the exciting leap into Swedish 2 upper next term. You’ll refine your grammar and vocabulary through engaging themes, authentic materials, and interactive tasks that bring Swedish culture and society to life.

Expect to gain greater confidence in expressing yourself in both spoken and written Swedish, with opportunities to explore current events, literature, and media. Whether you're preparing for study abroad, future research, or professional use, this course will support your journey with a strong focus on fluency, accuracy, and cultural nuance.

By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped not just with language skills, but with the curiosity and competence to navigate Swedish-speaking environments with increasing ease and enthusiasm.

What will we cover?

You will learn vocabulary and basic Swedish structures covering: education and work life, living situations and looking for somewhere to live, technology and phone conversations.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Topics:
- the Swedish education system
- express opinions in a conversation
- read short interviews in a newspaper
- discuss future plans and education
- gather information from flat/house adverts
- tell others about how and where I live

Grammar:
- subjunctions and subordinate clauses
- particle verbs
- sitta, ligga, stå used in geography and text
- the use of ser + adjective + ut
- word emphasis
- adjective comparation
- reflexive possessive pronouns
- prepositions for locations.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course requires the student to have completed Swedish 2 lower: module 2 or equivalent. Students should be able to make conversation about everyday situations to an intermediate standard, read everyday instructions and understand news reports in simple to everyday Swedish. They should also have a good knowledge of simple past and future tenses, be familiar with the present perfect and pluperfect tenses and feel confident with present tense.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction

- emphasis on speaking and listening skills

- pair and group work

- role plays

- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and complete homework tasks via Google Classroom.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
