Economics studies human behaviour as we obtain the goods we desire in a world where scarcity exists. This course will be using a critical thinking and ethics approach to economics, rather than mathematical models, to better understand what we and fellow humans do when we work, exchange, coordinate with others, consume, and invest. Tutor: Christian Michel.
The course will try to make sense of what’s going on. We will question the known suspects, bankers, speculators, lax regulators, and also examine the system they operate in, fractional reserve banking in a global financial market. We will review competing theories that seek to explain the crisis and offer ways to overcome it.
[Note: an advanced course open to all who have some prior knowledge of economics and those students who have followed HB010 or HB028]. Tutor: Christian Michel.
