IT Qualifications & ICDL Courses Online & In London

Do you want to develop your digital skills and gain a qualification to demostrate your skills to employers?

You can join our Level 1 Essential Digital Skills for Work or our International Computer Driving License (ICDL, formerly ECDL) courses, level 2 (intermediate) and level 3 (advanced) courses here at City Lit.

All these courses will help you progress at work. You will learn the most important Microsoft Office programs including how they are used in an administration and work environment. Come and join us and take your employability skills up to the next level.

Do I need a pre-course assessment?

If you want to do ICDL course, or any other course with an exam, you need to do a pre-course assessment. To start your online assessment, click on any of the courses below and on the next page, click on the pink ‘Start Assessment’ button.

Alternatively, you can contact us on 020 7492 2511 or email universal.skills@citylit.ac.uk to make an appointment for a face-to-face assessment. We have assessment sessions on the following dates:

  • Monday 22 August 2022. Room M06 -14:00-17:00
  • Thursday 1 September 2022. Room M06 - 11:00-13:00, 14:00-16:00, 17:00-19:00
  • Monday 5 September 2022. Room M06 - 11:00 - 13:00, 14:00 -16:00, 17:00-19:00

Level 3 assessment dates: (only for applicants to Level 3 courses)

  • Saturday 3rd September. 10:00-15:00
  • Saturday 10th September. 10:00-15:00

Free courses available

Our courses are FREE to most learners if you earn less than £21,157.50 a year, or you are on JSA/ESA (WRAG). Some classes are now taking place in the City Lit building but the majority are live online interactive classes. You will need a computer with a microphone, a camera and the internet. We recommend using Google Chrome for the best experience.

We offer a range of courses allowing you to choose between online and in-person learning. All our courses are live, interactive, and taught by expert tutors.   1. Level 2 certificate in IT user skills (ICDL Extra)

    Do you want to learn the digital skills you need for office work or everyday life, and gain a qualification? On this course, you will learn the core software applications required in every workplace. The course is made up of four modules: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Improving Productivity using IT. If you pass, you will receive the Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra). This course is ideal if you have some working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel, but want to be confident you can use their most essential elements.

  2. Essential digital skills for work (Level 1)
    Course start date:  Wed 21 Sep 2022 (and 2 other dates)

    Do you have some digital skills but lack confidence to use them? Would you like to gain the most essential digital skills needed for today's workplace? If so, and you need to develop the foundational digital skills for today's job market, this is the course for you. The course will give you the confidence to use different digital devices and tools to collaborate and communicate efficiently with work colleagues, to create and edit documents and presentations, and make simple spreadsheets. You will learn about different types of digital communication as well as how to use online resources for finding and using information and completing transactions. You will learn the transferable digital skills you need to progress, participate and express yourself in the workplace and gain a qualification. 53% of UK employees do not have the digital skills needed for work. You don't need to be one of them.

    Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills (ICDL Advanced) is an important commitment. Prepare yourself on this short course and make sure Level 3 is the right one for you. This course will ensure you make the most of your ICDL Level 3 course and have the skills to achieve the qualification once you start.
