The ’Sen’ energy lines of Traditional Thai Medicine that end in the feet, lower legs and hands are worked using acupressure, massage and stretch to balance body, mind and spirit in a deeply relaxing treatment.

What is the course about?

In this CPD course you will learn about the practical application and theoretical aspects of the Art of Traditional Thai Massage, specifically for the feet. Exploring its origins in Buddhism, Yoga and the Ayurvedic tradition and its development and place in complementary therapy. You will gain the confidence and skill to read the feet, apply anatomy knowledge to treat imbalance and reconnect clients to their ground and health and energetic flow, providing a treatment of deep
relaxation, release, connection and presence. Practising Reflexologists and Massage therapists alike will find it deepens their practice of reaching the whole body through the feet.

What will we cover?

- The anatomical & physiological correlations of the feet to the body through the ‘Sen’.
- Palpatory skills and location of acupressure points on the feet, lower legs and hands.
- The use of traditional tools.
- A one hour stand alone foot routine that may be modified to be incorporated into a full body massage.
- Contraindications and safe practice.
- Adapting the routine from mat to table.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Identify the ’Sen’ lines and acupressure points of the feet and associated anatomical structures & organs through palpation.

Practice with ‘Metta’ - loving kindness

Perform a 1 hour routine, safely with due consideration of client and self, on mat or table.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a CPD Course so you will need to have completed a Level 3 qualification in Massage, including anatomy and physiology.

You will be required to sit for extended periods and/or move around a mat on the floor and apply pressure maintaining stability so a level of physical fitness is required to perform the routine. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, handouts and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Demonstration, tutor and peer review and feedback, pair work, handouts and practical workshop.

Notebook/pen for your own notes.

Wear loose fitting clothing for practical exercises.

Didi’s training and Complementary Health journey followed a period of prolonged illness, becoming the key to her own recovery. She has over 15yrs clinical practice, including at Neal’s Yard Remedies, specialising in Somatic approaches to trauma, pain & dysfunction, to facilitate change and healing. She has a solid grounding in traditional manipulative techniques, such as Sports Massage, Deep Tissue & Thai Yoga, to the subtler practices of Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Bowen (NST) and Abdominal Sacral & Cranio Sacral work. A Yoga practice of 20yrs led her to train as an Integral Yoga Teacher. She teaches regular Mother & baby/toddler Yoga classes and trauma resolution Yoga classes. She loves to teach at a number of Adult learning centres in the community, addressing academic learning, physical & mental health for young people and adults, as she finds her students keep her learning up to date, deepening her understanding of Health & Wellbeing.
