Put some movement into your photographs - quite literally - with the magic of time-lapse and stop motion film-making. This exciting practical course introduces you to all the skills you'll need to shoot, edit and output your own simple time-lapse or stop motion movie using stills photography.

What is the course about?

A practical course for beginners, introducing you to the basics of creating movies from a series of still photographs, using time-lapse and stop motion effects. You'll learn the techniques and get to grips with the software involved right through the process from capturing the still images to editing, sequencing, optimising and outputting; then you'll work in small groups to plan and shoot your own short stop motion movie.

What previous students liked most about this course:
“The practical exercises in groups.”

“Learning something new and putting it into practice.”

“Very comprehensive, I am going away very inspired to create new work.”

What will we cover?

- Capturing images directly to a computer
- Stop motion camera software
- Onion skinning
- Outputting video to different resolutions and quality.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- plan and shoot a short stop motion movie
- use simple editing techniques to sequence
- use software to sequence your images
- optimise your movies for various platforms.

What previous students have achieved on this course:
“Learned about which software to use and how to make gifs and which equipment to use.”

“I feel confident about starting and completing my personal project.”

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for beginners to timelapse photography, so you don't need any prior experience. It is possible to photograph the images using automatic camera modes but the quality can be increased if you have the camera skills to shoot in manual mode (equivalent to having taken a beginners photography course).
