What is the course about?
Modern Calligraphy can be used in business and everyday life. It can be used to reflect your personality, style and creativity – everyone can learn it! This workshop will take you through a step-by-step process, letter-by-letter practice and analysis of the script. You will learn by using historical models, exemplars by the instructor, as well as demonstrations. Suitable for left and right-handers.
What will we cover?
Students will learn how to use pointed pen and ink, correct letterforms, spacing and writing words in modern version of Copperplate script. We will look at its structure, pen pressure and flourishes.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Use a range of tools for your calligraphic work
- Select and use appropriate materials effectively
- Produce work in a modern variation of copperplate hand
- Go on to further study in calligraphy.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for the complete beginner or those who wish to refresh their calligraphy skills.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for
health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
During the class there will be group and individual demonstrations. You will be given examples and worksheets to
enable you to develop at your own pace.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring a pen and a notebook to take notes. You can bring your calligraphy tools if you have any. You will be able to purchase some materials in the class. Advice will be given about tools and materials you may wish to purchase for further study.
