This short course will introduce you to the tools, materials and techniques that you will need to start creating beautiful Roman capitals by hand. You will focus on creating basic letterforms using a dip-pen and ink and leave having completed your own sample. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to increase their knowledge of calligraphy letterforms.

What is the course about?

If you want to learn how to create Roman capitals and learn a bit about the history of this style, this session is the perfect introduction for you.

What will we cover?

- Essential calligraphy tools and materials
- roman capital letterforms
- Writing with a dip-pen and ink.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Use a dip pen and ink in your work
- Complete a series of exercises to refine your letterforms
- Practice and write your own Roman capitals for your own projects.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for the complete beginner and for those wanting to increase their knowledge of calligraphy scripts.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

During the class there will be group and individual demonstrations and there will be time to practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All materials are included in the cost of the course. Please bring a pencil and notebook if you want to take notes and you might like to bring a folder or wallet to take home your samples and practice sheets.
