What will we cover?
- Impressing textures onto the surface of sheet metal - Cutting outlines and internal shapes in sheet metal - Finishing - You will have a period of time to explore these techniques through personal work. If you have experience in jewellery, you can follow your own project in consultation with the tutor.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Beginners.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught through demonstrations and examples of jewellery that show how these skills have been implemented. You will be given technical notes, and support and advice as to how your work can be developed.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All the basic tools and equipment you will need for this course are provided. City Lit will also provide some basic materials in reasonable quantities, such as base metals (copper, gilding metal, etc.) and other materials (paper, pens, etc.) chemicals (pickle, borax, etc.) and sundries (polishing compound, etc.).
You will need to provide your own metal if wishing to work in silver or on a large scale.
You are advised that sensible footwear must be worn in studio 308. For health and safety reasons, no sandals, open shoes & small pumps can be worn – even in hot weather.

Elizabeth Bone is a professional Jewellery artist, maker, educator & author. She has been designing & making jewellery for over 25 years, exhibiting & selling in the UK, Europe, America & Japan. Elizabeth’s work has been featured in numerous jewellery publications & purchased by private collectors from all over the world. Elizabeth is a skilled maker who employs hand-fabricating techniques in her own work. She has a BA in Crafts - wood, metal, ceramics and textiles. After graduation Elizabeth was apprenticed to the jewellery artist Wendy Ramshaw where she became her principal workshop assistant for 10 years. In 2011 Elizabeth was commissioned to write a book, Silversmithing for Jewellery Makers – techniques, treatments & applications for inspirational design published in the UK, USA and China. Elizabeth is passionate about sharing her knowledge, her teaching experience at degree level and in adult education covers a broad spectrum of levels and subject areas and spans her career.
Kinga Olah is an accomplished jewellery artist with over 25 years of experience. She holds a degree in jewellery and a diploma as a gem expert. Her unique pieces have been featured in several prestigious exhibitions and international showcases, contributing to her growing reputation within the contemporary jewellery scene. Among her many achievements, she was awarded the Venice Design Week Award in 2024. Her expertise spans a range of techniques, from classic goldsmithing to innovative approaches, reflecting her commitment to both preserving traditional craftsmanship and embracing modern, creative practices. Kinga is a member of several respected organisations within the jewellery community, including the Precious Collective, Association for Contemporary Jewellery. She is passionate about sharing her expertise and experience. Her teaching philosophy revolves around fostering a hands-on, collaborative, and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to experiment and grow, whether they are beginners or advanced.
