Make images of nature and creatures in the company of an experienced wildlife, landscape and environmental photographer. Obviously we can’t guarantee the appearance of any particular creatures, but it’s common to see aquatic and other birds, squirrels and sometimes the odd farm animal. All make suitable subjects and you will still learn what you need to for a safari photography trip.
There will be quite a bit of distance involved but there will also be plenty of stops along the way. All routes are wheelchair friendly and cater to the needs of those that are not able to stand or walk for too long. You can bring a foldaway stool but the tutor will make sure there are plenty of rest stops. The tutor will have your phone numbers in case they need to get in touch in an emergency. Please be on time, the tutor can only wait max 15 mins for latecomers.
For February course (VY963) meet in the garden of Storey's Gate coffee shop on the corner of Birdcage Walk and Horse Guards Parade. Nearest stations are St. James's Park or Westminster.
For May course (VY956) meet at Canning Town Tube exit/entrance to London City Island

How to develop a project or single image that tells a story
Conceptual ideas for developing your photography in the areas of wildlife and environment
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Identify appropriate equipment and how to use it to photograph your chosen subjects
Use photographic techniques including focus, metering, use of natural lighting and weather, styles such as fill frame, detail and telephoto photography
Have increased confidence in photographing your subject and how best to photograph them in varying conditions

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
All skill levels
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The class will be taught in the field, and there will be group discussions and opportunities for one-to-ones for those that require them during the session. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the day.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need to bring a drink and snacks. Please bring your camera with fully charged (and ideally a spare set of) batteries and plenty of room on your memory card. Tripods are useful but not essential. As there is a lot of walking, it is your decision as to what to carry. Do check the weather report and dress appropriately. You may need waterproof clothing and a plastic bag to keep your camera dry.
Please bring an oyster card or contactless as there may be bus travel.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Try our Nature and Wildlife or Red and Fallow Deer photography walks, or our longer Creative Nature and Landscape course. City Lit has other photography walks, such as the River Thames and London Bridges walks.
