This course follows on from the Apple Mac OS stage1 course with the focus on using some of the free software that comes with the Mac and available is from the App Store namely Safar, iTunes, Photos and Pages.

What is the course about?

The course will introduce some of the free software that comes with the Mac and is available from App Store and some of the common functions they share, there will be a quick overview of the basics but the focus will be using software Safar, iTunes, Photos and Pages which is an excellent App for making very nice looking documents or publications.

What will we cover?

Personalise and customise your computer.
Browsing the web with Safari, saving Bookmarks, whole web pages and links (pages you have visited) and printing web pages.
Explore iTunes.
Using Photos to import and organise images into albums, edit and enhance images (colour, tone, cropping) and print.
Overview of the Pages App for Word Processing and also desktop publishing.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Personalise and customise your computer.
Use Safari to save and organise bookmarks.
Save web page content such as Images and Text.
Recognise the basics of iTunes
Save web pages and links.
Printing webpage content.
Import and organise digital photos from a camera and create albums and slide shows with Photos.
Use Pages for word processing and desktop publishing (more of a graphic application of the software).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed the Introduction to Apple Mac OS stage 1, or be an existing Apple Mac user who would like to broaden their understanding of the Apple Mac system and applications. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computer projector screen and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations will help you grasp the concepts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No but you are welcome to bring your own Mac Book Laptops for checking over by the tutor and some use in class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Introduction to iPad devices or any of our beginners graphics, web, digital imaging or video courses.

Michael Harding Tutor Website

Michael Harding was born in Canada, where he studied cinema and photography at Concordia University, Montréal, before moving to the UK. Since then, he has created striking images of architecture, art, people and landscapes for international blue-chip clients for their use in editorial, advertising and corporate applications. Michael’s work has won many industry awards, notably being selected in the Eleventh Association of Photographers Awards and further receiving a Merit Award in the Seventeenth Association of Photographers Awards. His work was selected for a Highly Commended Award in the Deutsche Bauzeitung “Visions in Architecture” European Architectural Photography prize. His work has been exhibited in both the United Kingdom and Canada. Michael has been Chairman, as well as President, of the Association of Photographers (AOP). The AOP is Europe’s most established organisation for professional photographers, working to ensure greater recognition for all professional photographers, as well as working to positively influence legislators in the UK and Europe for the benefit of all photographers.
