What is the course about?

This course is aimed at people who want to understand how to effectively use hashtags for social media platforms.
We will discuss creating, using and tracking hashtags for use on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Threads.

What will we cover?

Hashtags are used in social media as conversation tools and to amplify your posts. You can use them to help identify your posts to a particular topic or just gain more exposure. They are used regularly on Twitter and Instagram, and occasionally on Facebook. In this course, we will discuss the origins of a hashtag, and how easy they are to use.
We search and use hashtags online so that we can see how they are used in a variety of ways. We will look at popular hashtag trends and see how they are used in different ways on different platforms. Then, we go further by discussing how to register and track a hashtag, which can be helpful if you are trying to use them for an event or business purpose. We use all of this information in class to post online, so that you can practice your use of hashtags live.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Use hashtags with confidence, understand why they are used and when to use them
• Create a hashtag that is efficient and effective, relevant to your content
• Register a hashtag that can be used for tracking
• Efficiently track a hashtag
• Develop a successful social media strategy that can include hashtags.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This class is suitable for learners who ask “What is a hashtag” and want to learn more about how to use them in social media. Suitable for those who want to integrate hashtags into their social media strategy with the purpose of gaining exposure on Twitter or Instagram.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a hands-on social media class. We will be posting online and using Instagram, TikTok and Threads during the class.
One to one guidance and support will be given throughout. Students need to have a social media account and feel comfortable with going online and posting to that social media account.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You should have access to your existing social media account(s). If you don’t have existing account(s) you will need to have a valid email address and its password to sign up for a new account. This will help you to practice the course content during the class and gain valuable hands-on experience.
