Watercolour: intermediate and advanced

Course Dates: 28/05/19 - 02/07/19
Time: 18:30 - 21:30
Location: KS - Keeley Street
Tutor: Paul Dixon

An opportunity to extend your watercolour personal project towards more abstract exploration of techniques, through discussion, guidance and encouragement from the tutor and group.

What is the course about?

This more advanced Watercolour course aims to provide tools and discursive guidance for more independent project development in watercolour.

It is designed for students who wish to extend their own projects and ideas in watercolour to a higher level. This is an opportunity to enable more complex work to be developed with input from the tutor and inspiration from the work of artists working in this subtle and vibrant medium.

What will we cover?

We will cover a wide range of watercolour techniques and ideas around image development. With your own ideas or previous work as a starting-point, themes and practical work (technical issues) will be discussed to enable more complex, considered development of your work.

You should have already done some project work in watercolour, having either completed a previous course, such as 'Watercolour: intermediate' or worked on your own independent watercolour project.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Develop a project through further investigation of theme, idea, and/or technique
- Experiment with a range of possible directions to take the idea
- Consider visual options and make more informed choices
- Investigate watercolour techniques appropriate to your project
- Experiment to extend your existing skills in watercolour.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for you if you have a theme or previous watercolour project which you are keen to explore further. It could also be helpful if you want to explore painting generally, and gain confidence with and knowledge of the potential of water-based painting.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Practical work in the studio, short demonstrations, examples & handouts, individual tutoring, with some group discussion.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Most materials are included. Extra materials, ie watercolour paper, may be purchased from the tutor at cost.

If you would like to buy art materials for your personal use outside of the course, City Lit students receive 10% discount off everything* from Cass Art, the UK's leading art supplies retailer. Your tutor will advise you on what you should buy. You will need to show your enrolment receipt in-store to receive your discount. Visit the Charing Cross shop at 13 Charing Cross Road WC2H 0EP or find your local shop at www.cassart.co.uk. *Terms and conditions apply, visit www.cassart.co.uk/students.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
