What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is a continuation of Welsh 2 Upper, module 2 in term 2.
Students should have completed courses at beginners and 2 lower levels or have equivalent experience (i.e. have studied for approximately 2.5 years). You should be confident with the basic word order of Welsh and know how to form sentences in the present, past and future.
Students at this level are working towards CEFR B1.
Choose a level 2 upper course if you can:
carry out simple transactions (e.g., in shops, bars, post offices, railway stations),
make simple plans with people (e.g., what to do, where to go and when to meet),
express your likes, dislikes, and simple opinions,
handle simple phone calls (e.g., answer a call, take a simple message, ask to speak to someone, give your number),
understand a piece of formal or informal writing (e.g., a short letter, note, or summary),
write short, basic descriptions of events and activities, and write basic letters requesting information (e.g., about hotels),
use a range of verbal forms to talk about the present, past, and future.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course uses a Communicative Approach, focusing on real-life language use and interaction. You will learn through:
Pair and group speaking activities
Listening comprehension tasks
Role-plays and discussions
Cultural content including music, media, and short texts
There will be regular opportunities to practise pronunciation and build fluency.
Homework and independent study will be encouraged to reinforce classroom learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You may be asked to purchase a course book or access online resources. A notebook and writing materials are recommended. Details will be provided at the start of the course.
