In this conversation course, you will engage in and discussions on a range of contemporary themes. It's designed for experienced Welsh learners who wish to enhance their fluency, critical thinking, and argumentative skills through engaging and thought-provoking materials rooted in Welsh culture and society.
What will we cover?
The focus will be on discussing and debating various contemporary themes using different types of reading and listening materials. Each week, we will explore one of the following:
Newspaper Article: Current events, opinion pieces, or cultural topics from Welsh-language media.
Blog Post: Personal stories, travel experiences, or lifestyle reflections from Welsh bloggers.
Short Story: Classic and contemporary Welsh literature.
Song Lyrics: Popular Welsh songs, both traditional and modern.
Poem: Works by renowned Welsh poets.
Essay: Analytical and reflective pieces on Welsh society, identity, and language.
Interview: Conversations with notable Welsh figures or public personalities.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Use an expanded Welsh vocabulary.
Have improved your fluency and accuracy in spoken Welsh.
Speak more confidently in Welsh about new and familiar topics, asking for help and guidance when needed.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have studied Welsh for at least 5 years recently or have an equivalent level of proficiency.
Participate in conversations with native speakers using a good range of generally accurate language.
Express and defend opinions convincingly.
Engage with a variety of Welsh-language media with confidence.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group discussions, role plays, and debates. A range of resources will be used to support your learning, including presentations, handouts, and audio-visual materials. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
