What is the course about?

These sessions will pick up on those areas of the body that usually take the strain from working at a desk. By bringing yoga into one's daily life one can draw on yoga postures and practices to help release and relieve and refresh the body & mind, ready to resume work.

The course will draw on Pranayama, yogic energetic practices and Hasta Mudras (hand shapes). The overall aim is to feeling better equipped to work comfortably and efficiently.

What will we cover?

  • Yoga poses especially beneficial for the neck, shoulders, upper and low back areas
  • Pranayama - breath work
  • Hasta Mudras - hand shapes
  • Relaxation

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • Heighten awareness of how to use Yoga to adjust approaches to working at the desk and make working more comfortably satisfying;
  • Identify the postures that address individual specific physical issues;

Complete the course with a set of practices gathered for individual ongoing practice.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

All levels including beginners.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

By demonstrations verbal instructions, mini lecture, feedback, handouts.

Sarah Scott Tutor Website

For 20 years Sarah has been teaching people who do not usually have access to yoga. She is the leader in the field of yoga for deaf people. She also works with people recovering from, or living with, specific physical and emotional health issues (including those living with dementia) through delivery of Chair Yoga classes across Westminster and K & C, and at Triyoga. Sarah qualified as an Inner Yoga Trust and British Wheel of Yoga registered teacher / practitioner. She danced from the age of four, and was first moved by Yoga when she was 16, though it has not always been easy for her to access as she is partially deaf. She has taught Deaf Yoga classes for staff members at DCAL (Deafness Cognition & Language Research Centre), Deaf Plus, Sign Health, DeafWorks, Oak Lodge School, Remark!, Special Yoga Centre, Sense and the Deaf Multilingual Community Service. Sarah’s yoga is an expression of and has evolved from her understanding of the teachings and a mix of Scaravelli informed, Iyengar and Satyanada Yoga.
