What is the course about?
Enjoy an extended gentle yoga class with asanas (postures), breathing practices and meditation. This will be followed by restorative yoga, holding poses whilst relaxing and supported by blocks, bolsters and blankets. We will close the afternoon with Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation to help you to surrender to deep rest and leave you feeling calm and refreshed. Massage and hands-on assists will be offered. Join a friendly workshop where options will be provided to suit everyone.
What will we cover?
- Standing, seated, kneeling, and lying down postures
- Forward bends, back bends, side stretches, balances, and twists
- Restorative yoga positions, supported by props
- Breathing exercises
- Yoga Nidra, deep relaxation
- Meditation.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Practice a wide variety of yoga postures - Follow instructions and demonstrations - Learn how to adapt poses to suit you
- Use props to support your practice
- Practise deep relaxation, a body scan, and yoga nidra
- Increased coordination and mind-body connection
- Improved flexibility, mobility, strength, and body awareness
- Practise breathing exercises
- Practice meditation techniques.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Open to all levels from beginners to more experienced. Options will be given to suit everyone.
If you have any medical conditions which might impact on your participation in the course, please consult your GP and inform your tutor at the start of the course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Equipment is provided but you are welcome to bring your own mat or props. Please wear comfortable stretchy clothing. Yoga is usually practiced barefoot, but you could wear non-slip socks if you prefer.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
‘Yoga: Mixed Levels’ on Mondays 18:00-19:15 or ‘Gentle Yoga’ on Thursdays 13:45-14:45. You could also focus on strength with ‘Light weights for Everyday Strength’ online on Tuesdays 16:00-17:00.
Madlyn is an experienced yoga teacher and massage therapist who loves to share the joy and transformative power of yoga with with people of all ages and abilities. Having trained in Hatha and Perinatal Yoga, Madlyn now weaves together strength training, restorative movement, and stretching, in gentle sequences. Madlyn’s classes always include breathing exercises, meditation and deep relaxation. Her compassionate style of teaching encourages students to adapt the practice as needed, and to connect with their breath, move mindfully, and relax deeply. Madlyn teaches for organisations, yoga studios, and gyms, as well as teaching and massaging private clients, and leading yoga retreats. Madlyn is a dedicated mum to 2 kids, a dog and a cat, and is a disability advocate, supporting individuals with complex needs. Courses at City LIt include Mixed Level: Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and online Light weights for everyday strength.
