  2. City Lit pre-foundation course

    This exciting and intensive course is a chance to develop key creative skills, methods and thinking in art and design, across 2D, 3D, life drawing and critical studies, to prepare you for application and entry to our UAL-validated, Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design. Please note that the course runs for two days per week (10.30 - 16.30). Students are able to choose between studying on Tuesdays and Wednesdays OR Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition to these two days per week throughout the course, there will be five evening sessions (17:30 - 20:00) on Wednesdays, which you will study in either the first or second half of the course, depending on which days you attend the daytime sessions.

This course is to help you to develop your basic communication skills in various social settings such as starting, maintaining and ending the conversations, confirming your understanding of the conversation flow and/or ask for clarification if/when necessary, asking and answering questions on various social topics etc. You will also develop basic study skills to help you to complete simple tasks and do homework on your own. This course has no exam. To be able to participate in this course, you will need to have basic BSL skills.

It will enable you to become confident in writing longer texts and reading more complex articles, information, descriptions and stories. You will also become more confident at formal and informal conversations. We will look at how English sentences are put together and how you can write more complex sentences confidently. We will see how formal English differs from informal English, which will help you with both your reading and writing. Along the way, you will work on your spelling strategies to improve the accuracy of your written work. And you will learn some useful digital skills including reading and finding information from websites.
