What is the course about?

When you are asked the question, “What do you do?” - your response should be concise, informative and spark an interest in the listener. This course will focus on creating an introduction for yourself and/or your business. We discuss the ingredients for a good pitch and how to conveying what you do (or what your business does) in a short, succinct, successful verbal introduction. You will learn how to adjust your pitch to suit your audience. These skills will be useful when networking, introducing your business to potential customer or gaining attention of investors.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

• Components of a good business introduction
• How to structure a pitch to focus on the customer’s needs
• What to include and omit when introducing yourself/your business.

• Write an elevator pitch that can be used in multiple situations
• Verbally convey your business efficiently and with confidence.

None. During the class, you will be asked to speak/practice in order to get feedback.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

We will focus on how to introduce yourself as a business owner or what your business does. The class is taught in the form of a workshop, where exercises are completed and the answers are shared with the group.

Amber Raney-Kincade

Amber holds an MBA in International Marketing, and previously worked as a Marketing Manager and Account Director for various marketing agency in London, where she was an early adopter in using social media in campaigns with high success. After the recession in 2009, she started teaching adults how to use social media to promote their business, often working with career changers who were switching gears after being made redundant to start their own businesses. She began teaching social media at City Lit in 2015. Her approach is dynamic and engaging, vowing to make the scary world of social media accessible to everyone from the tech-savvy to the technophobe!
