Do you want to be sure of your spelling? Do you want to know when to use a comma rather than a full-stop? Would you like to increase your vocabulary so you can be more expressive and precise when you write? On this course you will improve different types of writing such as letter-writing, work emails, texts, descriptive writing, essays and stories and you will focus on your spelling, punctuation and vocabulary so that you can confident that whatever you write is clear, accurate and professional.

What is the course about?

This course will help you develop your writing so your spelling and punctuation are good, you are using the right words for the context and you can express yourself well. You will develop your vocabularly by reading different types of texts. By the end of the course, you will confidently write emails, texts, letters, messages and essays which are interesting, accurate and engage the reader.

What will we cover?

You will discuss and write about different topics each week such as the news, current affairs, personal stories and experiences, biographies and music. Within these topics we will cover:
• writing emails effectively
•using paragraphs effectively
•using full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes and colons
•giving an opinion in writing
•the different writing styles of formal and informal emails
•the different writing styles of emails, notes, texts and essays
•different spelling rules
•different ways of improving your spelling
•how to describe emotions, feelings and places.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

•express yourself in writing on a variety of important topics
• write emails effectively and confidently at both work and home
•use paragraphs well and identify key features of a paragraph
•use full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes and colons with good accuracy
•give an opinion in writing
•identify the different writing styles and vocabulary of formal and informal emails and use this knowledge to write in different styles
•identify the different writing styles and vocabulary of notes, texts and essays and use this knowledge to write in different styles
•identify important spelling rules and use these to improve your spelling
•identify different ways of improving your spelling
•use a range of vocabulary to describe emotions, feelings and places.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for people who speak English fluently but need help with their writing, specifically their spelling, punctuation and how to express themselves. It is aimed at E3-Level 1 learners.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment. The tutor will help you discover rules and features of maths. You will work on your own and with other students. You will learn in a step by step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. Your tutor will also work with you individually so you know how to improve. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and a code for Google classroom so you can communicate with classmates and access materials, videos etc. online.
