What is the course about?
Create a digital file wand use it to laser-cut /engrave intricate hand drawn designs, photographic imagery or text into plywood blocks. On Day 2 You will print these using traditional and experimental methods by hand and using a press, to create a small edition of prints. This course combines digital and traditional processes to offer a new take on a woodcut technique.
What will we cover?
Making a digital file to transfer imagery to lasercut engraving.
Troubleshooting the digital process and creating a plywood matrix to print from.
Working with your lasercut block in the printroom
Additional woodblock techniques such as jigsaw, and mono to multi-colour printing.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Digital file preparation for lasercut
Print from an engraved woodblockusing various methods.
Select inks and papers for purpose.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
all levels are welcome, although it will benefit you most if you have some printmaking experience, for example screenprinting.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
guided taught sessions with 1:1 support.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
all materials are included however it would help to bring source imagery such as photos/hand drawn images etc.
Clark graduated from Camberwell College of Art in 2009 and has continued to work in leading London institutions and galleries, specialising in print production and sculpture for internationally acclaimed artists. He teaches digital courses at City Lit with an emphasis on physical production and tangible results. Clark maintains a studio practice outside of teaching and regularly exhibits a diverse range of work including sculpture, print, drawing and photography.
