What is the course about?

The course will explore how to create a sense of movement in your drawings through lively mark-making and an
expressive use of mixed-media including charcoal, pastels, inks and paint. A different approach will be explored
each week, working from the human form and from found/artist images. Some drawing experience would be an advantage.

What will we cover?

Drawing from a life model . Looking at examples of inspirational artists.
• Observational techniques and processes using a variety of drawing materials
• The use of lively mark-making, pattern and texture.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Explore fluid observational drawing techniques using line, shape and texture - charcoal/pastels.
• Develop mark-making skills with ink/paint.
• Appreciate movement and linear possibilities within composition.
• Open up a personal and expressive approach to drawing.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Some drawing experience is advised for this course, but beginners are welcome.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Demonstration, group discussions, handouts, practical work, one to one tuition.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Look out for our special collaborations with the English National Ballet where our students gain access to drawing
the ENB dancers live in class at the ENB venues. Alternatively, you may wish to develop your drawing from the
model on one of our many life drawing or life painting classes to suit all levels and availabilities.
