What is the course about?
The course builds on our Excel Advanced course. You will achieve fluency with important selected Excel functions, gain a strong working understanding of array formula, record and use basic Excel macros and acquire deeper understanding of pivot tables.
Participants who will attend the full course will receive a City Lit certificate of attendance electronically for their CV or CPD records. The certificate will show your name, course title and dates of the course you have attended.
You can choose to attend this course either live online or in person.

What will we cover?
• An introduction to array formulas
• Use of the Match, XMATCH, INDEX, and XLOOKUP Function
• The LET function
• The Intersect operator in formula construction
• Macros (including the macro button
• Combo boxes, spin control
• Drop-down lists
• Constructing a simple user form
• Issues in spreadsheet design
• Additional pivot table features, including the Slicer and how to query XML and Access data.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
• Achieve fluency with important selected Excel functions
• Gain a strong working understanding of array formulas
• Learn how to record and use basic Excel macros
• Acquire a deeper understanding of pivot table functionality
• Recognise some of the key issues in spreadsheet construction that facilitate the use of pivot tables.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have completed the Excel Advanced course or have sound advanced knowledge of Excel. You should have some familiarity with pivot tables. If you have not done Excel Advanced please see the course outline to see that you are familiar with what was covered.
You should also be able to follow spoken and written instructions and be comfortable carrying out mathematical calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Step-by-step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts. No outside assignments will be issued.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
No additional costs, just pen and paper to take notes. You should have a computer with Excel 365 App installed. Please note that an early version of Excel will not be compatible for the course to complete all tasks,
you can request a temporary licence from us by emailing at computing@citylit.ac.uk at least 3 days before the start of the course.
