Photography Studio

A dedicated space with the latest professional camera equipment and software.

Our specialist Photography Studio is designed to give our photography students the best opportunity to hone their craft and develop their skills. As well as teaching our students how to use the best equipment on the market, we also give our students the knowledge on how to be creative with equipment that can be readily available in any home.

The Studio

Photography Studio

The studio is a professional surrounding that offers a large open and flexible space, suitable for both collaborative and individual learning. A wide array of lighting rigs and coloured back drops means the space is designed to accommodate both portraiture and object photography.

Editing Suite

Our editing suite contains Apple Desktops and MacBook Pros, all containing Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop and Lightroom) and other professional camera editing software, such as Capture One and PTGui.

The Equipment

  • Cameras

City Lit has a large number of DSLR cameras (with lenses) available for students to use, including:

    • Nikon D850
    • Canon 5D Mark 4

We also provide large format 4x5 cameras, giving our students a more comprehensive learning experience.

  • Lighting

The Photography Studio offers a wide array of photographic lighting equipment, giving our photographers a number of options for their shoots. This includes:

    • Flash lighting
    • Soft boxes (light shapers)
    • Radio Sync Triggers
    • Tungsten lighting (hot lights)
    • LED lights and torches
    • Speedlights (Flashguns)
  • Printing and Processing

As well as standard high-end scanners, City Lit also provides high end inkjet/giclée printing services for fine art printing using Epson A2 printers and Apple Mac desktop computers.

In terms of film and paper processing, we have recently installed darkroom tents with enlargers, which gives students a chance to better understand traditional photography and photograms etc.

Alternatively, a number of courses also teach how to create home-made pinhole cameras and paper negative processing, which can be used for a “kitchen sink” approach to photographic image making.

  • Other Equipment

There is also additional equipment available for use, such as:

    • Close up Lenses and rings
    • Nikon and Canon lenses
    • Reflectors
    • Tripods
    • Panoramic Tripod Heads
