What is the course about?

This course is for intermediate learners of French who wish to improve their grammar, vocabulary and fluency by reading and discussing the news. Topics will be chosen by the tutor and/or suggested by the students.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

The primary focus of the lessons will be discussing the news, but we will also use the texts as learning opportunities, looking at the grammar and vocabulary used.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- expand your knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical structures
- give your opinion about a piece of news
- become familiar with the French speaking press.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

To join this course, you should have studied French for three years. If you are currently studying at City Lit, you should be taking either a French 3 lower or French 3 upper course.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This course will take place onlinle, via Zoom, and will involve:
- active students’ interaction
- student discussions
- pair and group work

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Daniel Fernández is a French tutor who was born and grew up in a small industrial town in the French Alps. He was inspired not only by his great teachers but also by his first experiences teaching English during his studies in southeast Asia. Daniel has experience of teaching French at all levels in a variety of contexts including companies, local authorities, charities, and private clients. He likes the energy and commitment required to meet the challenges of teaching. He also finds teaching French rewarding and enjoys seeing learning take place in the classroom.
