What is the course about?

This course aims to encourage you to speak French more freely. It will develop your listening skills, reinforce your confidence and increase your knowledge of French through a variety of contexts ranging from personal to social.

What will we cover?

Topics: healthy food habits-relationships and generations-humour.

Language points: relative pronouns; reported speech; comparatives; anterior future; the passive.

Culture:extracts of books by Katherine Pancol, Anna Gavald and Tahar Ben Jelloun.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-to identify humoristic styles

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

French 3 upper: module 1. Students should have recently studied French for at least 4 years or have completed a French 3 lower course.
In order to join the course, you should be able to do the following:
-understand details of authentic conversations of moderate length and complexity (e.g., interviews, adverts, news)
-understand specific details and general information from routine telephone calls,
-follow routine instructions (e.g., for a game, recipe, using equipment or installing computer software),
-understand articles from the press or other authentic sources and produce a written summary covering the main points.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is based on the coursebook Entre Nous 4 (ISBN 978-84-16347-94-0) units 1-2-3. Please note that you may not complete all the activities in the book. We suggest that you do not purchase the coursebook until after the first class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

French 3 Upper: module 2 starting next term. Please enrol on the next module as soon as possible as spaces cannot be guaranteed.
