French 3 upper: module 3

What is the course about?

This course aims to improve your oral and written fluency in French by reading and discussing extracts from
newspaper articles, TV programmes and by listening to authentic audio materials. You will also revise and
consolidate grammar in order to improve your accuracy in speaking and writing.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

The topics covered will lead to discussion and better understanding of France and French-speaking countries.
Various grammar points will be treated according to the needs of the students. These might include: past tenses
(passé-composé/imparfait and their difference), relative pronouns, adjectives, the conditional and the subjunctive.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have a fairly high level of French. They should have completed at least French 3 upper: module
2, French 3 upper pratique et perfectionnement: module 2 or have studied French for 4 to 5 years recently. It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basicgrammar terminology (e.g. noun, adjective, conjugation, etc.).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All the material will be provided by the tutor. You will need to have a bilingual dictionary. If a book is suggested by your tutor, please try the European Bookshop by selecting 'City Lit' and the language you are studying at this web page or call them at 020 7734 5259. If you state on the website, by phone or in the shop that you are studying with us, you can claim a 10% discount. You might be asked for your student number.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

A level 4 course starting next term. If you are unsure about what to do next, please ask your tutor for advice. It is best to enrol as soon as you can as places cannot be guaranteed.
