What is the course about?
This intensive course introduces you to the basic aspects of the French language and will enable you to take part in simple conversations. The three modules of Rapidement (1,2 and 3) cover year 1 and year 2 (French 1 and French 2 Lower).
What will we cover?
Topics: Personal identity, family, professions. Routine and leisure activities. Food, drinks and snacks. Quantities and prices. Directions. Likes and dislikes. At the hotel. At the station. At the restaurant.
Grammar: present tense; positive, negative and interrogative forms; nouns; adjectives; demonstratives; possessives; articles: definite/indefinite/partitive. Present tense (common irregular verbs); modal verbs; verbs in the imperative form and adjectives. Prepositions.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- talk about yourself and ask others about themselves (name, nationality, job, family)
- tell the time
- describe broadly your routine and leisure activities
- ask and understand directions
- order food, drinks and snacks
- book a hotel room
- buy a train ticket.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is suitable for learners who already speak a Romance language or who would like to learn at a much faster pace.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Michel is an enthusiastic qualified teacher, and his teaching approach is centred on the needs and requirements of the student. In 2007 he completed research on Second Language Acquisition theories and their impact in the language classroom and obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from Institute of Education University of London. Michel has taught in a variety of educational settings from College Further Education to Higher Education, including corporate training for major companies and international organisations.
