Generative AI: a short introduction

Kate is an experienced digital marketer and UX (user experience) designer, who's worked in Australia, Hong Kong, and the UK. She's spent much of her career in large tech and telecommunications firms, working with the human end of cutting edge technologies. She has a Masters degree in UX Design from the University of Technology, Sydney and was trained by IBM in enterprise design thinking, Agile project management, Agile for marketing and Agile for AI projects. She's taught at the University of Hong Kong, and for Surf Lifesaving Australia - and suggests not getting bitten by a blue-ringed octopus.

Craig Kirkwood is an Australian software instructor and design consultant now living and working in London. He has more than 3 decades experience as a professional designer where his recent clients include Apple Computer, the United Nations, Penguin Books, the HMRC, the Ministry of Defence, London Met Police, the National Audit Office and University College London. He is an Adobe Certified Instructor in most Adobe applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Captivate and After Effects. He also teaches and consults on user experience (UX) design, web design and development in CSS, HTML and WordPress. Prior to moving to the UK, he was the Managing Director of Fearless Media which was, for a decade or so, Australia’s leading Adobe training provider with training rooms around the country. Craig is also completing a PhD where his research examines the science of colour perception and its practical implementation in interface design and user experience.

Vina Theodorakopoulou teaches at the intersection of technology, business and society, helping learners connect big ideas on economics, innovation and human behaviour to real-world decisions and practical outcomes. With a background in financial and professional services and a PhD in behavioural economics, she brings practical insight into how decisions are made under uncertainty and how systems -from markets to organisations- affect everyday life and work. At City Lit, her courses span topics such as AI and ethics, global capitalism, innovation, sustainability and communication. Across all subjects, she focuses on connecting ideas to practice, encouraging learners to apply what they learn in meaningful and tangible ways. She has a strong interest in global cultures and communication, reflected in her teaching of languages and cultural forms, including Greek dance. She believes learning should open up new ways of thinking about work, culture and how we live — and offer practical value beyond the classroom.

Ketan teaches courses in Philosophy and History at City Lit, covering topics including Indian history and philosophy, the history of mathematics and engineering, and the Industrial Revolution. He also delivers short courses in Generative AI. Ketan is of Indian heritage with a deep passion for history and culture. Having studied engineering before moving into a career in business change and transformation, he brings a rare blend of technical and humanistic perspective to his teaching. Over the past 25 years he has visited many places of historical and spiritual significance across the Indian subcontinent and Europe.

June Lim teaches user experience and user interface (UX/UI), generative AI, and prompt engineering at City Lit in London. With 15 years as a UX designer and researcher, she brings current practice from government, commercial, and AI platforms into the classroom. Her work includes user research for MailOnline's 360+ editorial team, accessible services for the Home Office and Parliament.UK, and de-risking AI-powered technology for product development with Cortex Analytics. She contributed to 58% sales growth at ASOS through user-centred design. June teaches with a practical, portfolio-focused approach. Adult learners need job-ready skills whether transitioning from graphic design, upskilling, or retraining. Her courses emphasise hands-on practice and the research, design, and AI literacy employers seek. She holds a BSc in New Technology & Multimedia and has completed AI certifications including ISO 42001. A Mental Health First Aider, she brings technical expertise and care for student development to City Lit.

Byron Johnson Brown is a digital engagement consultant and educator specialising in social media, digital marketing, AI-enabled communications and professional digital identity. He combines teaching with active industry practice, advising organisations, programme teams and founders while staying closely connected to creative, technology and platform communities. His digital and social media experience spans strategy and audience development through to hands-on content production, with his own perspectives regularly selected for editorial features by LinkedIn. Byron holds a BA (Hons) in Entrepreneurship and Media Management, an MSc in Healthcare Leadership and a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, and is a Certified Canva Community Trainer. He teaches social media, digital marketing, AI, business skills and entrepreneurship using a practical, inclusive and application-led approach grounded in current industry practice.
