What is the course about?
To improve students knowledge of basic German in order to get by in real life situations.
As this is an intensive course, you will be required to do a minimum of 2 hours a week homework.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
booking a hotel room; telling the time; talking about daily routine; making appointments; get by with the shopping in town; talk about means of transport; talk about past events; prepositions with accusative and dative case, perfect tense with haben and sein, adjective endings, separable verbs, modal verbs, plurals, the accusative.

-describe objects
-use at basic level: separable verbs, modal verbs, plurals
- start using prepositions with accusative and dative case, perfect tense with haben and sein, adjective endings.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This level is for near beginners who have completed the equivalent of 18 hours study. Based on Willkommen chapters 6-8 and additional material supplied by the tutor.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
If you need revision: German 1 module 3 in the summer. If you are confident, any German 2 lower course starting in September. Please enrol as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
