It is still possible to join the course at this stage if you have not completed Part 1, however you will need to have some prior knowledge of the basic principles used in design and prior experience using the Adobe software programmes; InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

What is the course about?
Part 2 looks at some aspects in the field of graphic design more closely, ie, the fundamentals of typography, the world of the ‘brand’, visual identity and the exploration of editorial design. You will develop visual solutions in response to inspiring design briefs. There will be an emphasis on sharing, discussing and evaluating your own work and the work of others in group presentations.
In our fully equipped studio you will have access to the latest professional Adobe software; Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. The course is taught by a team of specialist practitioners to help guide you through every aspect of creating personal design work.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
City Lit Graphic Design Part 2 is perfect for those who have completed Part 1 and for those wishing to develop creative skills and knowledge further in visual communication. You will need to have a some knowledge of using Adobe software in Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
We use Apple Mac computers in our digital studio, which you will be inducted and guided through as part of the course.
Students should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information. You will be invited to take part in group discussions and you should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is taught by a team of experienced practicing designers through; engaging workshops, creative exercises, design briefs, tutor demonstrations, illustrated talks and individual / group tutorials. Each Part of the City Lit Graphic Design course requires a high level of commitment, therefore working independently outside the studio is strongly encouraged.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Students will need an A4 or A5 size sketchbook for recording information and ideas. We also advise students to have an A3 size plastic folder/portfolio with clear pockets to assemble a portfolio of work. Plus a memory stick or a mac formatted external hard-drive to store and save digital working files.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
CityLit Graphic Design Part 3 is intended as preparation for progression onto CityLit Graphic Design Part 3 – VK414 C - Start date 14.04.21 – 16.06.21. Guidance on progression beyond will be provided on the course.
