Heads of Schools

Meet the team leading the schools at City Lit.

Our courses are organised into four main schools: Visual Arts, Culture and Communication, Performing Arts, and Skills, Employability and Wellbeing.

Jayne Kay
Head of School — Visual Arts
Jayne joined the School of Visual Arts nearly 30 years ago after earning her degree in Fine Art (Painting) from Wimbledon School of Art. Over the years, she’s taken on a variety of roles at City Lit — from technician and drawing and printmaking tutor to contributing to our renowned Art and Design Foundation course.
Claudio Guasti
Head of School — Culture and Communication
Originally from Italy, Claudio leads the School of Culture and Communication at City Lit. With over a decade at the college, he brings a wealth of experience, speaks six languages, and holds a master’s in education from the Università degli Studi di Firenze.
Simon Goodier
Head of School — Skills, Employability and Wellbeing
Simon Goodier has over 20+ years’ experience in teaching, management and senior leadership, having previously worked at Birkbeck, University of London and Westminster Kingsway College. He joined City Lit two years ago to head the School of Skills, Employability and Wellbeing.
Trish Shaw
Head of School — Performing Arts
Trish Shaw is the Head of School for Performing Arts. She is trained as a violinist, singer and musicologist and specialises in music since 1900. She’s worked as a university and college lecturer since her early 20s, teaching everything from early music to songwriting.
