What is the course about?

Strong people skills are essential these days. You must be able to communicate, influence and impress both your colleagues and friends to enhance relationships and to make yourself heard. Being able to connect with people and win their trust is vital.

What will we cover?

Analyse what makes people appear confident.
Body language and Posture.
Use of voice – Pace, Pause, Projection and Tone
Identify habits that might hold you back.
Learn an assertive model for tricky conversations and situations
Assert your views with increased confidence and make an impact on otthers
Build rapport and communicate with others.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Use your voice and body more effectively.
Discover ways to relax and breath more effectively.
Impart information in such a way that people will really ‘hear’ what you say.
Highlight your best qualities.
Make a stronger impact and appear more confident and relaxed in all areas of your life.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

All levels.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Please bring a notepad and pen, and dress appropriately for relaxation and floor work exercises.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Bring a pen and paper- a small hand mirror may be useful.

Lloyd Wylde

Lloyd Wylde is a former actor and now Voice Coach trained at LAMDA and at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. She has worked for the Education Department at the National Theatre, Historic Palaces, Wellcome Trust and Soho Theatre, at several drama schools, and for the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as independent work. At City Lit she has taught Actor's Voice: beginners and improvers, Communicate with confidence through voice and body language, Self-presentation skills for business people (with Nikki Kelly), Use your voice assertively, and on the Foundation Drama and Acting Diploma courses. Having worked at City Lit since 2015, Lloyd enjoys the diverse range of students that come to City Lit keen to learn. She aims to help all students achieve their potential, find and harness the power of their voice, all within a safe and fun environment. Voice is in the body and is an expression of your personality and presence. Lloyd aims to help you find out what your strength is and help yourself counter the things that might get in the way. Come and play with your voice and see what you can discover.
