Practice time is precious but sometimes not used to the best advantage. These online sessions will provide guidelines to help you make the most out of your time. Please bring two pieces of music: one that you know or are currently working on, and one you would like to start learning.

What is the course about?

There are very many approaches to practising the piano. This short, onlien course will help you to get the very best progress from yourself and your instrument during in personal practice.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

- This course will be taught in a whole group session and will address different practice techniques in practical application using students’ own repertoire as examples.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- be clear about setting goals for practise
- feel confident choosing activities to do during practise sessions
- identify the practise methods that best suit you.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for students who are playing piano at grade 1-3 standard.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

For this online course you will need your own piano (or keyboard) preferably with 88 full-sized keys, and a computer or tablet with a webcam, microphone and reliable internet connection.
We use GOOGLE CLASSROOM to share messages, documents, audio and video files and for you to submit any homework tasks.
We use ZOOM (video software) to meet for classes via webcam.

Your tutor will teach though a variety of techniques:
- tutor explanation and demonstration via webcam
- short revision videos and audio files (posted in Google Classroom)
- worksheets (posted in Google Classroom)
- group playing and individual demonstration tasks.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring one piece of music mainly learned, plus a new piece which you would like to learn.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

This is a complementary study to piano/keyboards levels 1, 2 or 3. Gisela Meyer Tutor Website

Gisela is a multi-skilled musician: She works as a pianist, piano accompanist, classical soprano, cellist and teacher. Following undergraduate studies in Frankfurt-am-Main and a postgraduate diploma (piano) in Weimar, Gisela obtained a MMus in Accompaniment at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama. She has also studied singing privately with Jessica Cash, focussing primarily on oratorio and art songs. Gisela performs regularly in recitals as a soloist (as pianist or singer) and also sings and plays in a variety of chamber ensembles. In her freelance work she accompanies concerts, exams and recitals for professionals, students of various music colleges and Grade exam canditates. She is a consultant for Islington Sixth Form college, with her roles ranging from acoompaniment and teaching to the conducting of exams and auditions. Gisela has worked for City Lit since 2001, as accompanist and tutor. Presently, she teaches Piano, Singing and Chamber music (Level 2 and Advanced).
