What is the course about?

On this course you will further increase your confidence by consolidating previous knowledge and practising a wider variety of everyday life situations.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Based on chapters 8-10 of Nuevo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version).

Topics: routine; shopping for food; working hours; talk about your family; likes and dislikes

Grammar: direct pronouns; reflexive verbs; adverbs of frequency; the comparative, past tense.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-talk about a typical day
-shop for food
-talk about working hours
-describe your family
-talk about what you did at the week-end.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Stage 1 module 3 - You should have completed Italian Stage 1 modules 1 and 2 courses or have studied Italian for two terms (about 40 teaching hours).

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Laura Troisi

Laura is a qualified, native Italian teacher. She holds a degree in English and Italian Literature from the University of Naples. She took a Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults from Goldsmiths, University of London. She has been teaching Italian at all levels in several prominent organisations including City Lit, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and University of London since 2005. She is also fluent in French and has a good understanding of the Spanish language. She splits her time between teaching in several institutions, online teaching and some translation work from time to time.
