What is the course about?

You will improve your fluency in Italian by reading and discussing extracts from various types of texts as well as watching video clips and listening to authentic audio materials. You will also study/consolidate complex grammatical structures at B2-C1 level.

What will we cover?

A varied selection of cultural topics mainly related to the Italy and literary texts as well. Some consolidation work on grammar at B2-C1 level.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- be more confident in speaking Italian
- express opinions and ideas using a wider range of vocabulary
- extract specific information when listening to authentic audio sources
- extract detailed information from newspaper articles
- be more confident in discussing the content and style of a literary extract/short story.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have studied Italian for about four years. If you're unsure, please get in touch with us to discuss the level.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

The course book to be used will be Al Dente 4 (B2), libro dello studente, published by Klett Sprachen GmbH.

Roberto Minardi

Roberto moved to London in 1999. In 2002, he took a Diploma in Teaching Foreign Languages, and since then he has taught Italian in various colleges and universities. In 2005 he gained a CELTA qualification and moved to Central America for about a year. There he began teaching English, a job he carried on doing for various years on his return to England. Teaching English to speakers of other languages gave him the opportunity to work with students from diverse educational backgrounds, and allowed him to refine the technique of using the target language in class. Roberto strongly believes in helping students to build a positive attitude towards using Italian as much as possible, and to overcome the inhibition adults often experience, so that they can enjoy using the language. He went on to get a Joint BA in French Studies & Spanish and Latin American Studies. He has published several volumes of poetry in Italian. In addition to his interest in languages and literature, he has done extensive personal study in areas such as Italian Baroque, 19th and 20th century Italian art and history, and Italian dialects. Roberto enjoys sharing his studies and knowledge in class.
