Learn to speak Italian on this communicative course for beginners, with the emphasis on the practical use of Italian and the development of your speaking and listening skills. Based on Nuovo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni, Italian version). Once you've completed this course you can continue with 'Italian beginners: module 2.'

What is the course about?

This course aims to introduce you to the basic aspects of the Italian language and to enable you to take part in simple conversations.

What will we cover?

Based on Chapters 1-4 of Nuovo Espresso 1 (IF) (Alma Edizioni - Italian version)

Topics: greetings; introductions; alphabet and spelling; numbers; the time; say how you are; the restaurant; leisure activities; likes and dislikes.

Grammar: the verbs to be, to have and to go; the formal and informal way of addressing someone; the present tense; the negative.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-greet people
-introduce yourself
-exchange personal information (name, nationality, job etc)
-tell the time
-order food at a restaurant
-talk about leisure activities
-express likes and dislikes.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Stage 1 module 1 course - no previous knowledge of Italian required.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
