THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR YOGA STUDENTS WITH AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF REGULAR YOGA PRACTICE WITH A QUALIFIED TEACHER.

What is the course about?
Teaching Yoga has been a growing profession around the world for some time now. This accredited course will provide you with a recognised Yoga teaching qualification. It is designed to equip you with a solid foundation on how to teach Yoga safely and methodically as well as to deepen your personal practice.
This is an interactive training where each person is encouraged to reflect on the teachings and evaluate the impact they have on their practice and life. The emphasis is on process rather than performance and with the group’s support we create a safe space for each to understand and verbalise their personal journey. It is from your internal experience that you will source your deepest insights, and it is those insights that will reveal your individual teaching voice.
This intensive Yoga teacher-training course will prepare you to integrate the practice that will then allow you to plan, teach and evaluate safe and effective Yoga classes and courses. You will study theory of Yoga and Yoga philosophy, learn to teach Yoga postures, sequences, breathing exercises, bandhas, mudras, relaxation and meditation techniques.
This Yoga teacher training course is accredited by the IYN Independent Yoga Network
Due to COVID 19 some of the theoretical modules may be taught Online. The Practical elements will be taught in class. However, this may change as the Government amends lockdown guidelines, which may allow for the whole class to be taught in class at City Lit.
The college will provide all necessary PPE required.
Please note that 80% attendance is required.
This course will be delivered online and onsite, and will involve tutor presentation and class discussion. Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged. To fully participate in this online class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a microphone, and preferably a camera.
What will we cover?
You will be learning :
- The history of Yoga to contextualise contemporary practice
- Spinal integration and the energy body
- Full asana spectrum: the art of standing and sitting, forward bends, twists, navamala, hand balances, back bends, sirsasana and sarvangasana full cycles
- Mapping the body energy field: koshas and chakras
- Anatomy and physiology of the bandhas
- Kriyas, bandhas and mudras. Cleansing,, radiating and gathering
- Reading and understanding the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The eight limbs, the seven principles and other concepts
- Pranayama, the nature and effect of prana and the vayus
- Practice and study of sacred sound, Nada, inner vibration and Mantra , ‘the thought (form) that liberates’.
-Yoga Nidra, theory and practice
- Meditation, theory and practice.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Base your teaching on the principles of Yogic lore. Understand and embody the responsibility and ethics in teaching Yoga including code of conduct for the Yoga practitioner
- Discuss basic Yoga philosophy referring to the core text of Yoga, The Yoga Sutras of Pantajali.
- Plan, teach and evaluate a Yoga class including precautions, prohibitions, modifications and benefits of asanas to different students' abilities
- Use Yoga equipment safely in your teaching
- Develop your observation skills, learning to see
- Learn how to make mindful, effective and safe adjustments. How to use touch to restore equilibrium
- Develop a technical rigour and spiritual inspiration; learn how to combine accuracy, clarity and creativity
- Learn how to modify postures to assist with common postural problems
- Learn therapeutic asana sequences for common ailments: back pain, joint stiffness, stress etc.
- Use Sanskrit terminology and basic pronunciation
- Understand Yoga, as a spiritual practice for a spiritual life, the art of transmission.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for Yoga students with a proven minimum of 2 years regular practice with a qualified teacher.
You will need to apply using an application form available online or from the Health and Wellbeing Department.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is led by Sama Fabian who will use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstration and practice, Q&A sessions and small group work.
The homework will be essentially practical with suggested research with relevant written reports.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need to buy (or borrow) some Yoga books which your tutor will recommend.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
This general Yoga teacher training course can be complemented by further in-depth studies of Yoga in the UK and abroad.
Sama has been in Yoga all her adult life, establishing her practice at the age of 21, after a year in India. Her life experience has taken her to many countries, and into contact with different cultures and peoples. She has taught trainings in different locations, from the wilderness of British Columbia Canada, refugee camps in Palestine and Ashrams in India. She moved to South Wales in 2011 to establish The Green House School of Yoga. Her practice of Craniosacral Therapy and Core Shamanism also support and inform her teaching. Sama's Yoga is fearless and bold, yet gentle and full of heart. It invites us to move from the centre outwards, un-creasing the body from its unconscious folds and resistances.
