What is the course about?
This course is about you; your hopes and dreams and your inner world. It is about your creativity and your emotional growth, about expressing yourself and keeping track of your development in life. Through journal writing, you'll discover personal tools with which you can resolve old conflicts and heal old wounds.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
The course covers many aspects of journal writing, including lists, word portraits, map of consciousness, guided imagery, altered point of view, unsent letters and dialogue. It will enable you to go back in time to reframe and heal experiences and go forwards in time to create positive visualisation.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Identify ways of using a journal to expand your creativity and emotional growth.
- Apply three writing techniques to help resolve inner conflict.
- Reflect on how journal writing can expand your capacity for self expression.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is designed to include all levels of ability and the techniques are devised to develop your ease with the written word. It is not about grammar or spelling. It is about enabling you to get to know the most interesting person you will ever meet - yourself! You will need a fluent level of spoken and written English.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
There will be a variety of written exercises to stimulate new insights. Discussion in small groups and pair work; reflection, visualisation as well as the use of objects and symbols to access feelings and memories to help instigate change.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
A paper journal will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Please bring a pen that you find easy to write with. If you wish to experiment writing with different colours then please bring these with you (optional). There will be a recommended book list given at the end of the day.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
We offer further personal development courses that complement this one, such as: Free writing: exploring connections with thoughtts and feelings (PG712) Mindfulness (PG698).
