What is the course about?
An introduction to a genre of French songs related to major French events, topical opinions and history.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
- introduction to artists who expressed opinion on facts that matter through their lyrics
- some songs from the artists' repertoire.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- better understand French protest song
- identify the main events in the artist’s life
- understand and discuss the lyrics of some of the songs.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have a fairly high level of French (minimum French 3: Upper) and should have studied French for at least 4 to 5 years in order to take part in all activities. Active participation is expected.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
As far as possible this workshop will be based on the communicative approach, but some of it will be tutor-led. There will be pair and group conversation. Audio-visual techniques will be included as and when appropriate.
