What is the course about?
This is the NCFE level 1 award in personal and social development, with specific modules covering the skills and knowledge required to set up your own community action project. We have chosen 5 units that will help you to understanding the needs of your community and set up your community project.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
You will cover 5 units:
Working as part of a group
Planning an enterprise activity
Running an enterprise activity.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
You will know what community action is and how to identify the needs of your community
You will develop your skills of working in a group project
You will learn how to plan and run your own enterprise activity- including calculating costs and promotion
You will create a plan for your project!
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a level 1 course. You will need to complete some assessment and take part in class activities.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught in a variety of ways to suit different learning styles. There will be group discussion, presentations, role play and practical work. You will be required to complete coursework outside of class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There are no additional costs, however you will need a pen and paper. The cost of creating and running your community project is not covered by the college.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
When you have finished you may start your own community group or plan a project. You could also apply for one of our level 2 courses.
